SimpleStaff supports complex union scheduling rules to help you stay compliant with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs). Configure rules once and the system enforces them automatically.

Common Union Rules We Support

Seniority-Based Scheduling

Senior employees get priority for preferred shifts, overtime opportunities, and time-off requests.

Mandatory Rest Periods

Enforce minimum hours between shifts (e.g., 8-12 hours off between consecutive shifts).

Overtime Distribution

Track overtime by employee and distribute it equitably according to CBA requirements.

Guaranteed Hours

Ensure union members receive minimum guaranteed hours per week or pay period.

Call-In/On-Call Pay

Track on-call shifts and minimum call-in pay requirements.

Shift Bidding Windows

Configure timed bidding periods where employees can bid for open shifts.

Configuring Union Rules

Go to Union Agreements

Navigate to Owner Panel β†’ Union Agreements.

Create an Agreement

Click "Create Agreement" and enter a name, start date, and end date.

Configure Rules

Toggle features on/off and adjust settings. Use "Import Current Settings" to start from your team's existing config.

Save and Activate

Save your rules, then click "Activate" when ready. Active agreements override team defaults.

Manage Agreements

Deactivate anytime or let agreements expire automatically at the end date.

Seniority Configuration

Seniority in SimpleStaff is managed by adjusting each team member's rank in Team Settings. Higher-ranked members get priority for shift selection, overtime, and time-off requests.

Go to Team Settings

Navigate to Owner Panel β†’ Team Settings β†’ Members.

Adjust Member Rank

Drag and drop members to reorder them, or use the rank field to set their position. Rank 1 is the most senior.

Save Changes

Click "Save" to apply the new seniority order. Changes take effect immediately for all scheduling features.
